Community Recycling Program

Per Florida Statute 403.706, all Florida counties must provide the opportunity for their residents to recycle. The recycling program shall be designed to recover a significant portion of at least four of the following materials from the solid waste stream prior to final disposal: newspaper, aluminum cans, steel cans, glass, plastic bottles, cardboard, office paper and yard trash.

Why should I recycle?

Recycling helps preserve natural resources and save energy we would use to manufacture things from virgin materials. It also helps reduce pollution as well as saves money related to the cost of disposal by cutting down on the amount of trash we throw away. Money is also saved by manufacturers by reducing energy costs.

Recycling is the one thing we as individuals can control. Our waste reduction and recycling activities can make a difference. It is simply the right thing to do!

Where can I recycle?

Earth 911 has a tool (conveniently provided at the bottom of this page) that provides nearest locations for specific items you are looking to recycle. You can also visit the Recycling Business Assistance Center website.

Solid Waste Management in Florida

The Annual Florida Solid Waste Management Report is based on information provided by the 67 counties in Florida. This information provides an overview of the state’s solid waste management efforts.

Materials Exchanges

Materials exchanges facilitate the exchange of materials or wastes from one party, which has no use for that material, to another party that views the materials as a valuable commodity. These facilities foster waste reduction efforts through the reuse of materials, thus eliminating the need to process the materials for recovery or disposal.
