The department will continue to focus TMDL development efforts on waters with verified water quality impairments. One important part of the TMDL priority setting effort is a focus on waters where the TMDL/BMAP approach is the best of the available options for restoration. The department's resultant list of priorities are therefore best interpreted as "those impaired waters where the department expects to develop a site-specific TMDL."
Department contracts, grants, and purchase orders for sampling or analytical services, including research projects, must include quality assurance (QA) requirements.

DEP is coordinating with local stakeholders and we began water quality monitoring of Port Manatee on March 30, 2021. This data will enable us to protect public health and safety, evaluate any environmental impacts and support the department's full enforcement against HRK for any damages to our state’s resources.
The core function of the Watershed Assessment Section is to use the best available information to identify waterbodies and water segments (WBIDs) that are not meeting the applicable water quality standards and designated uses based on the Impaired Waters Rule, Chapter 62-303 and Florida's Surface Water Quality Standards, Chapter 62-302, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.).
