We are pleased to announce the appointment of John Dawson as the Deputy Director of the Division of Air Resource Management (DARM), effective August 1, 2018.
John has been with the Department since 2014. He has worked in DARM’s Office of Permitting and Compliance, reviewing applications for construction and operation permits for some of our most complex industries. In addition to helping with training air permit writers from DEP’s district offices and the state’s local air programs, he has also assisted with special projects related to rule development, ambient air monitoring, and federal grant programs. Prior to joining the Department, John worked for six years in EPA’s Office of Research and Development in Washington, DC. At EPA, John was a research grants program officer, working on projects related to air quality, climate mitigation, and climate adaptation.
John earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering and Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University, where his graduate research focused on the impacts of a changing climate on air quality. John has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Villanova University, and is a licensed Professional Engineer. Next week, John will be completing a nearly year-long leadership training program with the Florida Engineering Leadership Institute.
