The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is committed to the protection of public health and safety of Florida’s residents and visitors, and the environment. DEP takes all drinking water violations very seriously.

DEP is actively investigating the illicit cross-connection from a residential sewage line to a potable water line in Gulf Breeze in Santa Rosa County. At this time, the cross-connection has been eliminated and DEP and the Florida Department of Health (DOH) have reviewed sampling data collected by the Midway Water System and the City of Gulf Breeze from various locations throughout the distribution system.

All bacteriological samples collected by the utility from the distribution system to date have come back absent of Total Coliform and E. coli. Results from those sampling events are available here

Additionally, DEP, in coordination with the Midway Water System, has conducted residential tap sampling for bacteriological parameters in response to the Boil Water Notice issued by the Midway Water System on Oct. 18, 2021. Sampling began on Oct. 22, 2021, and the department will continue to work with the remaining impacted residents to schedule sampling. At this time, only one home in the affected area has not been sampled. Residents have been contacted with their results via email and USPS where appropriate. (Note: Multiple samples may be collected from a single residence as needed.)
