The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) is a framework for Everglades restoration that was authorized in by the U.S. Congress in 2000. The plan is a 50-50 partnership between the State of Florida and the federal government, being led by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The plan consists of 68 projects located throughout the 16 counties of the SFWMD jurisdictional area that are intended to be modifications to the existing Central and Southern Florida (C&SF) flood control system that is managed jointly between the SFWMD and USACE. 

OWPER is the lead office responsible for implementation of DEP’s responsibilities under the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan Regulation Act (CERPRA), pursuant to Section 373.1502, Florida Statutes [F.S.]), and CERP requirements under Sections 373.026(7)(b), 373.470, and 373.1501, F.S.

This role involves close coordination with the lead agencies implementing CERP, USACE and SFWMD, through planning, design, permitting, and compliance.
