As the Deputy Secretary for Land and Recreation, Mara Gambineri oversees 175 state parks and trails, more than 12 million acres of public lands, and 4 million acres of coastal uplands and submerged lands. The program also acquires and protects lands for preservation and recreation.
The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Program is a federal program authorized by Congress that provides for acquisition or development of land for public outdoor recreation. LWCF funds are appropriated by Congress to the U. S. Department of the Interior, National Parks Service (NPS), and NPS allocates the funds through state agencies as a grant program to state and local governments. It is administered at the state level by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
The Land and Recreation Grants staff administers grants to local governments through the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) and the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).
