Join Florida Geological Survey staff at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park to celebrate its designation as Florida's eighth state geological site.
After the designation ceremony, Florida State Geologist Harley Means will lead a 2-mile hike along Rim Ramble Trail to provide an opportunity for participants to view some of the site’s geologic features, including numerous sinkholes and an exposure of the Ocala Limestone. The hike will begin and end at the headquarters parking lot. Attendees are encouraged to bring water, sun protection, insect repellent and comfortable shoes if participating in the optional 2-mile hike following the ceremony.
Attendance is free but registration is necessary. Email Mabry.GaboardiCalhoun@FloridaDEP.gov to grab your spot. Hike attendees will close at 20 people.
