Our Compliance Assurance Program is composed of dedicated professionals and subject matter experts in several disciplines. Our program responsibilities include:

  • Provide timely inspections that meet state and federal requirements.
  • Oversee compliance with all media (air, waste, water and state lands).
  • Provide the regulated community with compliance assistance.
  • Coordination of enforcement activities.
  • Promote high compliance rates through outreach activities.
  • Respond to complaints and citizen inquiries both timely and effectively.
  • Provide the regulated and general communities with the highest customer service and problem-solving efforts rooted in respect for each party’s concerns.
  • Provide conditions to promote a level playing field among the regulated community regarding accountability to compliance with environmental requirements.
  • Support economic activity with assistance and streamlining regulatory requirements for new and expanding businesses and property development while fully ensuring environmental goals and requirements are met.

Air Resources

Regulates stationary sources of air pollution; fugitive emissions; odors; open burning; asbestos; excessive dust.

Beaches and Coastal Systems

Regulates beach construction; management of coastal sediments to reduce erosion stress; restoration and maintenance of critically eroding beaches.

Clean Marina Program - NOTE: Effective 4/13/2020, now under the auspices of the Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection in Tallahassee.

Brings awareness to marine facilities and boaters regarding environmentally friendly practices.

Emergency Response

Responds to incidents ranging from petroleum spills to chemical plant explosions to coastal oil spills. Provides on-site technical assistance and coordinates with local public safety officials and emergency response contractors to ensure threats are quickly and effectively addressed.

Environmental Resources Program

Regulates activities in wetlands, surface waters or state lands; dredge & fill; stormwater ponds; docks/piers; boat ramps; shoreline stabilization.

Hazardous Waste

Regulates the management (storage, treatment, transport) of hazardous waste (ignitable, reactive, corrosive, toxic).

NPDES Stormwater

Regulates compliance associated with stormwater discharges from industrial activities.

Petroleum Storage Tanks

Regulates underground or above-ground petroleum storage tanks and piping.

Potable Water

Regulates drinking water facilities and distribution systems to ensure compliance with state and federal drinking water standards.

Solid Waste

Regulates solid waste disposal and processing sites (landfills; waste transfer stations, dumping; waste tires; storm debris).

Underground Injection Control

Manages regulatory compliance associated with wells used for disposal of treated fluids.

Regulates systems and facilities associated with domestic (sanitary sewage from residents, businesses, etc.) and industrial (derived from an industrial activity) wastewater.
