The Siting Coordination Office and Office of General Counsel (OGC) provide administrative and legal support for the certification process. Certification is a comprehensive state license which includes any regulatory activity applicable under state, regional, and local regulations for the facility. Though the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for coordinating the certification process, the Governor and Cabinet issue siting certifications.
Electric and magnetic fields (EMF) generated by electrical transmission lines are also regulated by DEP. The Siting Coordination Office reviews required compliance reports submitted by companies that construct or operate transmission lines.
The Siting Coordination Office also assists county tax appraisers in determining eligibility for ad valorem tax reductions for air or water pollution control equipment.
