New Systems Capacity Development Program

Capacity development (CD) is an initiative by the state to ensure that drinking water systems acquire and maintain adequate technical, managerial and financial capabilities to enable them to consistently provide safe drinking water. Capacity has three components: technical, managerial and financial.

The requirements of the new systems CD program may apply to your system, if the following applies:

Wellhead Protection

The Wellhead Protection Program is a pollution prevention and management program used to protect underground based sources of drinking water. The federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), as amended in 1986, established a program for the states to delineate and manage Wellhead Protection Areas (WHPAs) for protection of ground water supplies from contamination. A Wellhead Protection Area is defined as the surface and subsurface area surrounding a public water supply well, through which contaminants are reasonably likely to move toward and reach the well.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Water Resource Management congratulates the winners of the 2023 Plant Operations Excellence Awards for drinking water and domestic wastewater facilities from around the state. The awards are presented to facilities, people, and processes that demonstrate excellence in operation, maintenance, innovative treatment, waste reduction and pollution prevention, recycling or other special achievements.
