Florida Waste Characterization Studies

The University of Florida’s Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences performed various waste composition studies throughout Florida in 2019. These studies were funded by both local governments and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Project Goals:

1. provide the local government with a current evaluation of their municipal solid waste (MSW) composition; and
2. update Florida DEP’s solid waste composition online tool called WasteCalc because it relies on current waste composition studies to calculate the material composition of MSW for each of Florida’s 67 counties.
