Cultures evolve based on the resources available on the lands people call home. In Florida, we can experience pristine beaches, freshwater springs, forested uplands and marshy flatwoods, all within a single day. These resources are the foundation of our way of life, providing materials for shelter, habitat for plants and animals, protection from wind, rain and erosion, and inspiration for all manner of human creativity. Additionally, Florida’s unique and breathtaking natural areas provide support for the state’s economy.
In partnership with other agencies and organizations, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of State Lands works to acquire and conserve these precious natural and cultural resources through the Florida Forever Program.
These lands are the legacy we inherited and the legacy we will pass along to future Floridians.
