Clean Waterways Act Stormwater Rulemaking Workshops

In 2020, the Florida Legislature passed Senate Bill 712, also known as the Clean Waterways Act, now Chapter 2020-150, Laws of Florida. This legislation passed with unanimous, bipartisan support and carries a wide range of water-quality protection provisions aimed at minimizing the impact of known sources of nutrient pollution and strengthening regulatory requirements. Stormwater-related pollution represents one of the largest potential contributors of nutrients throughout the state.

Stormwater Support

Why is stormwater a problem? To give some perspective, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency indicates that over 40% of waters assessed by the states are too polluted for fishing or swimming. The top four impairments are pathogens, metals, nutrients, and sediment. 

Mining and Mitigation Technical Support

The Mining and Mitigation Technical Support (MMTS) staff of the Engineering, Hydrology and Geology Program (EHGP) provides technical assistance to the Mining and Mitigation Program and other programs within the Division of Water Resource Management.   

Staff primarily review and evaluate Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) applications for mines and mitigation banks, and Conceptual Reclamation Plans for mines in compliance with Chapters 211, 373, 377 and 378, Florida Statutes. The following areas are considered:
