Si el material resulta ser peligroso (hazardous), tiene que almacenarse, reciclarse, procesarse o enviarse a un establecimiento autorizado a disponer de desperdicios peligrosos. Los desperdicios peligrosos no pueden depositarse en el suelo, en vertederos, en tanques sépticos o en pozos de inyección. Independientemente de la cantidad generada, un generador de desperdicios peligrosos es responsable de sus desperdicios desde que los origina hasta que desaparecen.
