The Chipola College Firefighting Academy is located at:
3052 Calhoun RoadThis facility is utilized for only day use training exercises. The facility is served by one on-site potable well and one fire suppression well used for training exercises.
DEP collected initial groundwater samples on January 23, 2019. Samples were collected from an on-site supply well and a facility drinking water fountain. Neither of these are currently used for potable water due to contamination concerns associated with a nearby landfill. The water sample results were non-detect for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS). These analytes are associated with firefighting aqueous film forming foam (AFFF). DEP conducted additional soil and groundwater sampling on February 18 and 19, 2019. The results of the soil and additional groundwater sampling from nearby monitor wells, a fire suppression system supply well and associated storage holding pond indicated no exceedances of any provisional ground water or soil cleanup criteria; therefore, the Department’s assessment efforts are complete.
