Citrus County Sheriff’s Department Training Facility

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Department Training Facility is located at:

1300 S. Lecanto Highway
Lecanto, FL 34461

This facility is utilized for day use only training exercises. The facility is served by a public water supply that is the primary source of drinking water. The facility does have one on-site potable well, which is currently used only for supplying water to hydrants. The site also has a stormwater pond.

DEP collected initial samples on January 14, 2019. The results of this initial sampling indicated that on-site groundwater was contaminated with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) at concentrations above the provisional ground water cleanup target level; soil samples were also impacted by PFOA and PFOS at concentrations above DEP’s provisional soil cleanup target levels.

DEP advised the Florida Department of Health of these results and directed them to develop and implement a community sampling plan. The Florida Department of Health completed the sampling of twenty-six potable wells around the Citrus County Sheriff's Department Training Facility on March 24, 2021, and found no exceedances above the Health Advisory Level.

DEP will continue to work with the County to develop a cleanup plan to remove or contain the contamination to prevent environmental impact and human exposure. A County consultant has commenced additional site assessment activities.
