Recreational Trails Program Grant Assistance

The Recreational Trails Program is a federally funded competitive grant program that provides financial assistance to agencies of city, county, state or federal governments, and organizations, approved by the state, or state and federally recognized Indian tribal governments, for the development of recreational trails, trailheads and trailside facilities. The program has been shifted from the Office of Greenways and Trails to DEP's Land and Recreation Grants Section within the Division of State Lands.

Program Information Description
Eligible Applicants: Eligible applicants include local governments and nonprofit environmental organizations.
Application Cycle:
The 2023-24 RTP Application Cycle Application Cycle will be held on Feb. 1 - March 1, 2023.  Applications were only be accepted during this period.
RTP Staff will host an Application Workshop on Jan. 19, 2023 at 10 a.m. for the 2022-23 RTP Application Cycle. Materials from this meeting may be viewed below.

The Recreational Trails Program Advisory Committee will meet on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, beginning at 9 a.m. to review applications received during the 2022-23 application cycle.

To meet federal requirements, the evaluation document must have sufficient information to determine if the proposed project will have any adverse effects on listed species. Section 2.4 details what is expected in an endangered species evaluation.
