The Recreational Trails Program is a federally funded competitive grant program that provides financial assistance to agencies of city, county, state or federal governments, and organizations, approved by the state, or state and federally recognized Indian tribal governments, for the development of recreational trails, trailheads and trailside facilities. The program has been shifted from the Office of Greenways and Trails to DEP's Office of Operations, Land and Recreation Grants.
Eligible applicants include local governments and nonprofit environmental organizations.

Tentative Application Timeline
Staff is currently reviewing the 2018 Applications. The estimated timeline for Deficiency notifications to be sent is the beginning of February 2018. Per Rule, Applicants will have 15 business days to respond. Applicants will be notified as to whether or not their Application has been moved to scoring, and again once the final Priority List has been approved. Applicants can expect notification of eligibility for funding around mid-March or before. It may be as late as May or June 2018 before the final Priority List is approved.
