The Strategic Beach Management Plan (SBMP) Introduction section provides an overview of the Department’s beach management programs, coastal emergency response activities, Florida’s 66 coastal barrier inlets, list of beach restoration projects, sand resources and innovative technologies. The Introduction is associated with beach management activities that deal with addressing the critical erosion areas found along Florida’s 825 miles of sandy beaches fronting on the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of America and the Straits of Florida.

The SBMP is organized into seven regions - the Northeast Atlantic Coast, Central Atlantic Coast, Southeast Atlantic Coast, Florida Keys, Southwest Gulf Coast, Big Bend Gulf Coast, and Panhandle Gulf Coast. This plan provides an inventory of the beach restoration/nourishment project information and the strategies to address critically eroded beaches.  Also included is an inventory of the region’s coastal barrier inlets or passes and strategies associated with the inlets.
