On June 19, 2019, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection requested that the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) redesignate Duval County as "Attainment" for the 2015 Ozone NAAQS. On August 14, 2019, the EPA proposed the redesignation in the Federal Register. Effective December 23, 2019, EPA approves Florida's redesignation request and redesignates the Duval County Area from "Unclassifiable" to "Attainment/Unclassifiable" for the 2015 8-hour Ozone NAAQS.
