What is a CEU?
"Continuing Education Unit" - given for continuing education. CEUs may be given in the form of classroom time or a seminar, self-study programs, and conferences. For operators, one CEU equals 10 hours of continuing education contact time.
A “provider” is a nonprofit organization or educational institution accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Types of educational institutions are accredited universities, community colleges and vocational technical centers. Once approved, a provider may present courses, seminars or self- study courses for CEU credit. Additionally, a provider may approve courses submitted to them by sponsors. A provider’s role is to ensure that the program planning content, organization and implementation comply with the department’s requirements.
In order to renew a license, the appropriate amount of continuing education be must completed. All licenses are renewed on a two-year cycle. This means that all licenses must be renewed by April 30th in odd numbered years to continue performing the duties of an operator. A license is categorized in one of two statuses. A license will be maintained in either an Active or Inactive status.
This means that all individuals now wishing to obtain a water distribution license must begin the licensure process at Level 3 and meet all training, education and experience requirements associated with the licensure level and sit for the applicable state distribution examination.
Once the Level 3 license is obtained, an applicant will then be able to pursue higher levels of licensure. These requirements are outlined in the table below:
