Plantation Fire Department is located at:
8200 Southwest 3rd StreetThis facility used aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) on a limited basis ten years ago and presently uses dish soap. AFFF when used, was applied on impervious surfaces and was allowed to evaporate. Approximately 50 persons are trained each year. The facility is served by a municipal water supply system.
DEP conducted a site reconnaissance and a preliminary site assessment (PSA) during the week of Dec. 17, 2019. Groundwater and soil samples were collected. Laboratory results indicated that some of the soil samples were contaminated with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) at concentrations above provisional cleanup target levels. The Plantation Fire Department has been informed of the data results.
DEP advised the Florida Department of Health (DOH) of these results and directed them to develop and implement a community sampling plan.
DEP will continue to work with plantation to assess the site and develop a cleanup plan to remove or contain the contamination to prevent environmental impact and human exposure. The city is currently performing quarterly groundwater monitoring.
