State Authorized Professional Mangrove Trimmers (PMTs)

Below is a list of professional mangrove trimmers (PMTs) who have demonstrated to the department a sufficient level of competence to assure that they are able to conduct mangrove trimming in a manner that will ensure survival of the mangroves that are trimmed. Additionally, the department has determined the below PMTs possess the knowledge and ability to correctly identify and trim mangroves in accordance with the Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act (sections 403.9321- 403.9334, Florida Statutes (F.S.). As part of their DEP qualification they have provided a minimum of 10 successfully completed mangrove trimming projects which were verified for compliance with the Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act.

The above FDEP qualified list includes only those who have qualified as FDEP PMTs under section 403.9329(1)(F), F.S. For further information on how to become a DEP qualified professional mangrove trimmer, please submit the PMT application and necessary supporting documentation to SLERC@FloridaDEP.gov

Professional Certifications

Other environmental professional certifications are automatically granted PMT status through the provisions of S.403.9329(1)(a-e), F.S. therefore, the following persons are considered to be professional mangrove trimmers in accordance with the MTPA: certified arborists, Certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA); professional wetland scientists (PWS), certified by the Society of Wetland Scientists; certified environmental professionals (CEP), certified by the Academy of Board Certified Environmental Professionals; Certified ecologists, certified by the Ecological Society of America (ESA); and persons licensed under part II of Chapter 481 as Landscape Architects  (Note: The "Special Qualification" box on a qualifying Landscape Architects verification page should state “mangrove trimmer” for them to be considered PMTs.)  

The department also maintains a list of individuals who have one of the above professional certifications (at the time of request) and have asked to be included on our website. To be added to DEP's  list of certified professionals who are considered PMTs, please complete the request form and provide the necessary information to SLERC@FloridaDEP.gov. These individuals have not been qualified by the Department as FDEP Professional Mangrove Trimmers.
