Details
Round Up Urchins in St. Joe Bay Join the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection on May 22, 2021, as they collect live urchins from St. Joseph Bay. Collected urchins will be relocated to deeper water to help reduce their impact on seagrasses as they graze in the bay's seagrass beds. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. • Bring your boat and snorkeling gear. Event organizers will provide buckets and gloves. • Upon registration, volunteers will be directed to the rendezvous point, marked by a large, red balloon. • Volunteers will be provided with maps and GPS locations that show where to collect urchins. • Buckets, filled with urchins and seawater, must be returned to the check-in point by 5 p.m. For more event information, visit https://MyFWC.com/Research/Habitat/Seagrasses/Projects/ Active/Urchin or contact StJoeBayUrchins@MyFWC.com . Volunteers who have additional questions may also contact DEP's Central Panhandle Aquatic Preserves Manager at Jonathan.Brucker@FloridaDEP.gov.
